Why Not On Facebook?

You might wonder — in fact, I've been literally challenged on this before, on other websites— why we can't do this on Facebook, and avoid having another page to log in to. There are three reasons.

  1. This site is going to become a storehouse/clearinghouse for training material, including peer mentoring. Facebook doesn't do that very well.
  2. Facebook has been known to shut down and in effect destroy online groups on its own whim. I don't want to expose our group to that happening.
  3. Coming here is a minimal enough commitment, and it's not unreasonable to expect people to do it once in a while.

The current web framework was chosen for its virtually infinite scalability: it could do everything that needs to be done for all of what's envisioned here. But its graphic design offerings are really quite inflexible, at least until we get some expert help to work around its limitations.) So there remains room for growth.
